RE: Coffee Table Availability in RGV

Yes it was a Miller copy I was looking for. I couldn't bring myself to pay $390 US$ for that table, it is nice, but . . . . . Looking for similar. Camping World has one, but not the quality.

RE: Campgrounds in Newfounland

You can stay at the ferry terminal prior to your sailing but you might have to wait until the sailing previous to yours leaves. We have been to Nfld. 4 times, but in a smaller unit than yours. Only once did we take the longer ferry - that was enough. We enjoyed the drive across the province and took time to see things that we did not see on the previous cross province drive. There are also lots of places to boondock; we have stayed beside rivers, at museums and attractions. You will have a great time - it is worth the cost to get there, but stay long enough to make it worthwhile - at least 2 or 3 weeks, preferrably longer. There is a lot to see and do and the distances are long - it is a big island.

RE: Border crossing ..Port Huron/Buffalo WITH a pet ... ??

We crossed the border at Port Huron, Michigan last Sunday. The week before I called to ask about any restrictions. Currently the only things not permissible are goat and lamb as well as citrus and tropical fruits. I had a full fridge and freezer. It is also recommended that all pet food be manufactured in US and be in new unopened bags/cans. On the way home after every trip to US I buy some canned pet food, mark as US and keep it until our next trip. I always take new bags of kibble and circle "Product of US" on the bag - saves a lot of trouble if inspected. Of course we have rabies certificate and get a health certificate from our vet. The restrictions could be different at the various borders across the country. It is best to call and check. What applies to Ontario may not apply to Alberta, etc.

Coffee Table Availability in RGV

I am looking for a coffee table for our M.H. We had hoped to pick one up in Elkhart on our way south, but the one I wanted was not available. Camping World has one that might work, but I am looking for other suggestions. Has anyone seen any at the flea markets or RV dealers? I need one in cherry finish.

RE: Food items - Canada to USA

Bruce I called the border at Detroit this week. The only restrictions are goat, lamb, tropical & citrus fruit. As far as pet food, it is still recommended to have only "Made in US" products. I have unopened packages and US cans already to go.

RE: Happy Thanksgiving from your mod.

Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends. It's damn cold here in Canada - snow for the weekend - just when we plan to leave. Enjoy your turkey dinners.

RE: Electric Mattress Pads vs Electric Blankets

Lucy Hope you are keeping nice and warm & cosy at McGregor. Yes, Berkley should be sleeping all night on the bed, but he occasionally stretches and the claws come out. Your idea of another light blanket on the bed is a good one. We are still trying to decide whether to buy an electric blanket or another mattress pad. I would prefer the pad, but all those precautions really worried me. Keep warm Lyn

RE: US69 in Ok

jojolou The worst part for us is I-69 from Port Huron to Flint. We travelled it twice this summer, and it needs some serious work. Thanks for letting us know that further on it does improve. I'm hoping we have nice weather like you but the long range forecast is not that great. Maybe we can meet you for a burger in a couple of weeks.

RE: Electric Mattress Pads vs Electric Blankets

Barb I know we would have enjoyed it as well, but running those wires under the mattress bothered me knowing the precautions said not to do this. At home, running them under the bed would be ideal, but we can't do that in the M.H. An electric blanket will not work for us as we have a cat and he loves to sleep with us. If he got a claw into the wiring, well you know the result . . . . It was a Sunbeam product that we bought - maybe sometime in the future we will figure out a way. Stay comfy!

RE: US69 in Ok

I-69 is not good in Michigan either. Unfortunately we are headed that way - maybe it is better through Indiana - we haven't been on that stretch. The thought of a Gonzales burger and onion rings will make it all worthwhile.

RE: Electric Mattress Pads vs Electric Blankets

I'm very disappointed. We bought an electric mattress pad, and at the suggestions of others on this forum, we ran the cords under the mattress. Today we got it all hooked up and started reading all the precautions, do's and don'ts. Scary stuff! ! ! Bottom line, off it came and its going back. It warns not to run the cords between the mattress and box springs. Well we don't have box springs in the M.H. but the platform the mattress sits on would be the equivalent. Running the controls along the top of the mattress to the nightstands is also not a good idea. I felt for my peace of mind I was too nervous to use it, and probably would not be able to sleep. We did turn it on and it sure felt nice. It was a challenge getting it packed up and back in the package. We now have an extra blanket on the bed - it won't be the same but safety is very important to us.

RE: Tobermory and Manitoulin

I would recommend that on your way through Sudbury you stop off at Science North. It would be a great place for your kids to have some fun and learn something to. Coming south on Hwy. 69 you pass Grundy P.P. It has nice beaches and a good nature program (unless its been eliminated due to cutbacks). Something for you to consider. Tobermory is nice to visit, but 6 days is more than enough - if necessary I would shorten that stay to do a couple of other things along the way.

RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 08-09

We'll be there in a couple of weeks. Hope to meet some of you for a burger. We never did make it last year - the lineups were always so long - but this year for sure, even if it takes 2 hours!

RE: First Christmas away, need advice

This will be our first Christmas away from home. I have packed some favorite decorations and will bake some shortbread to take along. We are fortunate that our daughter & SIL are going to fly down to the Valley to be with us for a few days. They are anxious to see the places we keep talking about. It will be a different Christmas but one we are looking forward to. I think going to some of the activities and being with our Texas friends will make it an enjoyable holiday.

Thanks for the reassurances - we will be there in December. CW told us there would be electric available - sounds like eating out will be easy! Yea!

Hidalgo Winter Lights _ RGV

Looking for some information on going to Hidalgo to see their light display. I heard there is a trolley tour or else you can drive yourself. Which is better? Also heard there is a meal you can have before the tour. What is it? Cost? Do you get tickets ahead of time? Where? This will be our first Christmas in the Valley - can't wait!

Camping World - Indianapolis

We are having some work done at C.W. in Indianapolis and they have told us we can overnight there. Has anyone stayed there - is it in a decent, safe area? I'm hoping we won't be the only ones in the parking lot - that makes me nervous.
